When Saydel (Des Moines) visits the middle school gym in Jefferson tomorrow night for varsity basketball, the Greene County teams will have plenty of incentive, although both Rams’ teams already own victories over the Eagles. Greene County swept a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference twin bill at Saydel on Dec. 7 by scores of 52-45 for the girls and 67-39 for the boys.

The Greene County girls are 4-8 overall and 1-6 in the conference with the win over the Eagles the only one in HOIAC action. Saydel is 3-11 overall and 0-7 in the league. Coach Dean Lyons’ team needs a victory to avoid dropping into a last place tie with the Eagles.

The Greene County boys are 6-4 overall and 5-2 in the conference. The Rams will be looking to break a three game losing streak. The Eagles are 2-11 on the season and 0-7 in the HOIAC. Coach Chris Nelson’s team will be looking to maintain third place in the conference by itself behind unbeaten South Hamilton (Jewell) and PCM (Monroe), the two teams that own HOIAC victories over the Rams.

Both games Friday night will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Coverage begins at 5:45 p.m. with the girls playing at 6 p.m. and the boys to follow.
