Senior Caden Wardyn braces for impact after hitting the sand in the long jump at the WCV Wildcat Relays earlier this month.

This season the ACGC boys track and field team featured eight seniors, five of which were involved in qualifications for this week’s state meet. The common theme for the majority of this class was utility. Boys head coach Tyler Mosbach tells Raccoon Valley Radio he could have put multiple athletes in different events and they would have scored or helped the team in some other way.

The senior with arguably the most impact on state qualifying entries is Caden Wardyn. Wardyn won the long-jump in Van Meter with a launch of 21-5.5, the fifth best out of qualifying in Class 2A. He’ll also represent the gold and black in the distance medley and shuttle hurdle relay teams.

Classmate and shuttle hurdle teammate Cole Boyer also broke a school record in the 110 meter hurdles at Van Meter, finishing in 7th with a time of 16.85. Mosbach shares his thoughts on Boyer’s career. “Another kid that just works his tail off and does exactly what you ask him to do everyday. He’s one of those kids that’s going to be really tough to replace just because of the fact (that) he does things the right way. You want your younger kids to see what he’s doing and learn from him as far as what’s expected.”

Boyer is set to run in the shuttle hurdle at the blue oval. The shuttle hurdle prelims start tomorrow at approximately 2:40pm. Justin Plowman, Carter Schildberg, and Grady Laabs will join Wardyn and Boyer at the State meet at Drake Stadium. Other participating seniors this season include: Quenton Spack, Collin Stowe, and Garrett Young. A full list of state-qualifying seniors and their events can be found below:
