voteRegistered voters across Guthrie County came out in support of local, state, and national candidates Tuesday during the Primary Election. The overall support was more this year than two years prior.

According to the Iowa Secretary of State’s Office, 1,326 votes were cast Tuesday night in Guthrie County. The voter turnout percentage was 16.83% with a total number of registered voters set at 7,880. The voter turnout percentage more than doubled the 2016 number. In 2016 only 655 total votes were cast. The voter turnout percentage was 8.3% with a total number of registered voters at 7,896.

This year there were 770 Republican ballots cast and 545 Democratic. In 2016 there were only 366 Republican and 277 Democratic ballots cast. The results of Tuesday’s election remain unofficial until they are canvassed by the Board of Supervisors.
