logo-Iowa-DNRWith waterways throughout the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area, and the state in general, above flood stage, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is encouraging paddlers and other recreationalists to avoid these areas.

The DNR recommends that all paddlers, particularly new and inexperienced ones, stay on lakes and flat water surfaces while the rivers are high. They have received reports of inexperienced paddlers on the Des Moines River who tipped over their boats in the strong currents and were rescued by other boaters. They encourage everyone to check local river levels before venturing out onto the water.

The Raccoon Valley Radio network provides daily reports on river checkpoints when they reach flood stage or higher. Levels are also provided as part of our Severe Weather Action Team coverage during severe weather events. We also provide information on storm conditions, road closures, and any cancellations or delays. The one to count on during flood warnings and severe weather is the Raccoon Valley Radio Network.
