A Carlisle bicyclist was taken to Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames Saturday afternoon following a collision with a truck east of Woodward.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office reports, at around 12:30 p.m. a truck driven by 66-year-old Jerry Nelson of Woodward was travelling north on U Avenue at the crossing of the High Trestle Trail near the Boone County line. A group of bike riders was approaching the intersection, led by 23-year-old Nolan Miller of Carlisle. According to the accident report, Miller did not slow at the posted stop sign on the trail. Nelson noticed the cyclist coming and applied his brakes, but Miller still hit the truck’s front fender on the passenger side. No other bicyclist from the group following was involved in the wreck.

Miller sustained suspected minor injuries and was taken to the hospital by Dallas County Emergency Medical Services. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. Damage to Nelson’s truck was estimated at $2,500. Miller was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and failure to yield upon entering a through intersection.
