Jefferson Police BadgeA Jefferson man faces several charges following two alleged incidents in May.

According to a press release from the Jefferson Police Department, 43-year-old Jody Lyn Schad is charged with a Class D Felony for second degree theft, four aggravated misdemeanors for third degree burglary, a serious misdemeanor for possession of marijuana and a simple misdemeanor for possession of drug paraphernalia. Police Chief Mark Clouse tells Raccoon Valley Radio, a company in the 400 block of East Central Avenue notified them of some stolen items on May 17th. The company reviewed their surveillance camera system and saw an individual going through four of their vehicles and stealing several tools on May 14th. Clouse notes that they were able to identify the suspect as Schad.

Clouse says they executed a search warrant of his property on East Central Avenue on May 23rd and recovered 90-percent of the stolen items. Also during the search, officers seized suspected narcotics and drug-related items. Tests came back positive for marijuana. Clouse points out that Schad’s girlfriend, 45-year-old Jennifer Marie Ashby was also charged with a misdemeanors for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Clouse says another incident involving Schad was when he allegedly stole a motorcycle. The 1979 Harley Davidson Flathead was reported stolen on May 30th from the 700 block of North Cedar Street. We previously reported that the victim was talking with a mutual friend of the suspect who thought Schad had stolen the vehicle. The victim then claimed to have seen Schad pass him on the stolen motorcycle on Highway 30 and witnessed him crashing and totaling it. Schad additionally faces a Class C Felony for first degree theft.

Clouse notes that they’ve applied for arrest warrants for both Schad and Ashby. Once the warrants have been issued and the suspects have been apprehended, they will be booked into the Greene County Jail.
