Although his official birthday is today, this past Saturday the Adel Partners Chamber of Commerce and Fry Fest hosted a 100th birthday party for Nile Kinnick.

The former Adel native and Heisman Trophy winner at the University of Iowa was celebrated by the community and Hawkeye fans from all around. The Iowa Spirit Squad and Herky the mascot were in attendance for photo opportunities with kids and adults alike. Tom Lidd, author of the book “Nile,” as well as filmmaker Joe Heath who’s producing a movie based on the book, were also on hand to discuss Kinnick and their contributions to his legacy. There was also birthday cake for attendees, and a presentation about Kinnick that people could view, including his bust.

Chamber Director Deb Bengston felt the event was a big success, as it was well attended and everyone seemed to be having a great time.
