There are several changes going on statewide, instituted by the Iowa Department of Transportation. While most people are aware of the new license plates, what they may not be aware of is the new driver’s licenses.

Dallas County Treasurer Mitch Hambleton says the licenses are currently being issued, and they should be among the most difficult state licenses to replicate. “In this age of identity theft and fake drivers licenses being issued, the DOT really takes all of that stuff very seriously. So the vendor that the DOT works with, they’ve come up with a design with enhanced security features. One thing that I thought was pretty cool is there’s actually micro holes punched through the license. You can actually put a light behind it and see through the license. Features like that are a little tougher to counterfeit, and make it safer for all of us to be out there.”
