Weather during the month of June was rough for much of central Iowa, and recently Governor Kim Reynolds sent a letter requesting a Presidential Disaster Declaration for 30 counties.

Two of the counties listed were Dallas and Adair, where there was significant damage sustained from storms and flooding between June 6th and July 2nd. The Governor’s request would provide funding for the 30 counties under the Public Assistance Program through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Funding through the program is used to rebuild damaged infrastructure such as roads, bridges, culverts, and other public facilities, as well as cover the costs of emergency work and debris removal.

The initial assessment for the 30 counties revealed more than $16 million-worth of damage.
