A defensive struggle resulted in a 13-10 loss for the Perry Blue Jays Varsity Football Team Friday night, as they rekindled a rivalry with Dallas County foe Adel-DeSoto-Minburn.

There was no scoring in the first quarter for the two teams, who hadn’t played each other in two years despite their proximity. The second quarter opened with a fumble by Perry that was recovered by the Tigers, and they were able to turn it into a 20-yard field goal by Bryce Holm. Perry was able to answer late in the half with a field goal of their own, as Corey Alamina knocked it through from 40 yards. The teams entered the locker room tied at 3.

The third quarter mirrored the first, as there were no points scored. In the fourth quarter, however, the Tigers were once again able to capitalize on a Perry turnover, turning an interception into a drive that ended in a 3-yard touchdown run by Nick Bradshaw. Perry answered back on their next drive, marching down the field in 8 plays and finding the endzone on a 16-yard touchdown run by Kaleb Olejniczak. With the game tied at 10, ADM mounted one last drive and Holm connected on a 17-yard field goal with 34 seconds left. Time then ran out on Perry, and the Tigers walked out with a 13-10 win.

With the loss, the Blue Jays fall to 0-2 on the season. Next week they will head to Nevada for a game against the Cubs. Make sure to listen to Raccoon Valley Radio for live coverage of the game.
