guthrie-center_iowaThe Guthrie Center City Council met in regular session Monday.

MSA Professional Services presented the latest schematics on the ongoing renovations at Mitchell Park. In the needs assessment, MSA determined that the poolhouse structure is in good shape, though the roof is leaking in some spots. They therefore recommended replacing the roof. As for the interior, the current facility is not up to code and most of the required updates are for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance.

MSA then went over about 150 survey responses from the general public. The predominant request from the surveys was an upgrade to the restroom facilities and a shaded area near the concession stand. MSA presented multiple options for the Council’s review that incorporated those items and included both designs for renovation and new construction. The City’s Park Board recommended an option that would be a complete overhaul of the facilities ranging between $550,000-$975,000. No formal action was taken on the presentation.

The Council also approved one ordinance each amending provisions pertaining to cigarette and tobacco permits and alcoholic beverage control. Both were drafted in order to comply with changes in State legislation. Other action items approved included an accessory building permit for Jon and Rita King and the purchase of flashing lights to be placed on top of Stop signs at the intersection of State Highways 25 and 44. They are $110 each and are subject to Department of Transportation approval.
