Kyle Baxter (left) is sworn in as Perry School Board President

The Perry School Board convened Monday evening in regular session.

The meeting began with the election of Board President and Vice President. After brief consideration, Kyle Baxter and Linda Andorf were chosen to continue in those roles, respectively. In reports, each of the school principals gave an update on how back to school has gone, in particular the “Capturing Kids Hearts” program instituted at the high school and middle school. Each said the program has so far proven to be a success. In general business, the Board approved an agreement with SVPA for their services during the planning and bonding phase for the industrial technology facility project. The agreement will pay the firm $14,300 for work do be done through December.

Following that, they approved a sharing agreement with AmeriCorps for the work done through the GearUp program, as well as a host site agreement for the services. The Board also approved setting legislative priorities to be submitted to the Iowa Association of School Boards. The priorities chosen were the same as last year, except they decided to include the support of the Teacher Leadership and Development program this time. Other items approved included: an allowable growth request for any potential special education deficits through the School Budget Review Committee; a change order for $1,995 for the Dewey Field renovation project; authorizing the use of electronic signatures; and two additional fundraisers for the current school year.
