One-third of the way through the high school football regular season schedule and the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers varsity squad is undefeated. The perfect start isn’t lost on the Iowa High School Athletic Association, who released their initial Football Ratings Percentage Index on Monday. ADM comes into their final nondistrict game ranked third in Class 3A RPI poll with a percentage of .7135. The IHSAA’s new playoff formula adopted in January has three aspects it takes into account: your overall record, your opponent’s record, and then your opponents-opponents record. ADM’s opponents are 14-13 to start the season, and their opponent’s opponents combined record is 140 wins and 103 losses. Only District nine foe Lewis Central and Bishop Heelan post a better playoff RPI than the ADM Tigers through the first three weeks. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network asked ADM head football coach Garrison Carter about the Tigers’ current RPI ranking Wednesday afternoon. He says it’s irrelevant at this point. “I don’t mean to belittle us by any means but I don’t think there’s anyway right now that we are the third best team in (Class 3A),” Carter said, “I think we have the potential to be there, I think we’re trending in that direction. (However), with one- third of the season played, I think those computer rankings are a little skewed.”

Only the district champions are guaranteed spots in the playoffs with the remaining seven spots being decided by the Football Ratings Percentage Index. ADM finishes their nondistrict schedule tomorrow night, hosting the Boone Toreadors in the Tigers’ annual homecoming game.
