The Carroll Tigers and Gilbert Tigers were high school volleyball winners Thursday night vs. the Greene County Rams. The action took place at Gilbert, and Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s team fell to 3-12 on the season in matches and 0-2 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. The Rams are 10-27 in sets.

The match vs. Carroll was non-conference and best two of three. The Rams won the first set 25-19, then lost 20-25, and 11-15.

Gilbert and Greene County met in HOAIC play in the traditional best three of five format with the host squad winning three straight by scores of 13-25, 18-25, 6-25.

Coach Heisterkamp told Raccoon Valley Radio she was encouraged, especially by the match vs. Carroll. “I saw our girls play the best yet this season! They were flowing so well on the court together. Their passing and digging were amazing, and it seems that our back row players put up consistently good balls to our setter. Our setter, Aubrey Heupel, did a fantastic job of getting the ball to our hitters. She knew when to keep the ball in the middle and when to push it outside. Our hitters were on fire and stayed aggressive the entire match.”

Luisa Slompo, the foreign exchange student from Brazil, led the Rams in kills vs. Carroll with 10. Lily Muir was next with nine kills, and Brianna Osterson had five.

Muir led in kills vs. Gilbert with nine, followed by Slompo with five and Osterson with four.

Next up is a home match vs. North Polk (Alleman) on Tuesday, Sept. 17 in the middle school gym in Jefferson. It’s middle school recognition night.
