A Perry man was arrested Tuesday morning on several charges after being found behaving erratically on Highway 144.

According to the Perry Police Department, they received multiple calls at around 3:47 a.m. regarding a man walking in the middle of the highway about a mile north of City limits. Officers found 30-year-old Michael Scott Schmitz at the described location, and he reportedly became hostile towards them. During the altercation, Schmitz reportedly attempted to disarm one of the officers. He was then subdued and arrested on charges including: disarming a peace officer, a class D felony; assault on a peace officer and others, a serious misdemeanor; and interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor.

Schmitz was transported to the Dallas County Jail, where he is currently being held on $5,000 bond. He had his initial appearance in court Tuesday morning, and will have a preliminary hearing on October 19th. The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office aided the Perry Police Department at the scene.
