A difficult season came to an end Friday night, as the Perry Varsity Football Team lost 45-0 at Humboldt, leaving them winless on the season.

The Bluejays struggled on both sides of the ball, allowing the Wildcats to move down the field seemingly at will, while also failing to gain a first down that wasn’t by penalty the entire game. Humboldt got the scoring going early, turning their second drive of the game into an 8-yard touchdown run by Tyler Vitzthum. A botched snap on the extra point was then corralled by kicker Lucas Volf, who proceeded to successfully complete the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead. The Wildcats would then score on their next two drives, first on a 14-yard run by Jamison Heinz, then on a 28-yard field goal by Volf. Perry managed to keep them off the scoreboard the rest of the half, entering the locker room down 18-0.

The Bluejays’ struggles continued in the second half, when on their first offensive series they threw an interception that was returned by Volf for a touchdown. He then missed the extra point, to put Humboldt up 24-0. Things then went from bad to worse for Perry, as the Wildcats scored touchdowns on each of their next three drives. The first was on a 20-yard touchdown catch by Matt Miller, the second was scored on a 7-yard run by Vitzthum, and the last on a 4-yard run by Sawyer Savery. The Bluejays were unable to match any of the scores, and for the first time this year were held scoreless, losing by a final of 45-0.

The loss ends Perry’s season with an 0-9 record, the second time in four years they’ve finished the year winless. However, the coaching staff was proud of the effort the team put in this year, as they were very close to winning several games throughout the season.
