Several athletes from area schools competed in the 2018 Iowa High School State Cross Country Championships at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge Saturday.

In Class 3A, Adel-Desoto-Minburn sophomore Nate Mueller held the lead midway through the boys race. Unfortunately, he was overtaken with less than a mile remaining and finished in 3rd with a time of 16:12. Classmate Ethan Jurgens finished in 49th with a time of 17:27.. On the girls side, freshman Jaylene Karolus finished in 70th with a time of 21:05 and ADM sophomore Hannah Welch crossed the line in 80th at 21:14.

As for 2A, the Panorama Panthers took their District team and individual championships to Fort Dodge. Sophomore Ella Waddle crossed the line in 5th place with a time of 19:31. As a team, the Panthers couldn’t quite cut the top-three, finishing in 7th with 180 total points. They were tied with Cascade, but fell to 7th on a tiebreaking 6th runner.

In Class 1A, the ACGC girls team finished in 15th place, led by junior Kate Crawford’s 9th place finish at 20:11. There were three individuals on the boys side. ACGC’s Noah Nelsen finished in 4th and WCV’s Louden Foster was right behind in 5th. The Guthrie County standouts finished with times of 16:37 and 16:42 respectively. ACGC’s Clay Billheimer also finished his final race for the gold and black, coming in 59th at 17:49.
