There are two contested races for Guthrie County Board of Supervisors seats in Tuesday’s general election.

Raccoon Valley Radio invites you to learn more about the candidates vying to represent District 3. Republican incumbent Everett Grasty is running against Democratic nominee Kevin Wirt. Besides serving as supervisor, Grasty has served several appointed positions for the City of Stuart, and has served on their City Council. Grasty shares one of his main concerns for Guthrie County residents, “We need to do what we can to keep levies under control. This would include more economic development to expand some of the tax base and take some of the pressure off of the current taxpayers. We’ve done this with TIF (Tax Increment Financing) as an example, with the bridges and box culverts from the wind farm.”

Challenger Wirt has previously served two terms as supervisor for District 3. He’s also served on the Panorama School Board and as a director for the Guthrie County Pork Producers, among other groups. Wirt mentions his biggest concerns for the county, “Keeping roads and bridges in good repair, making sure the roads out to Panorama and Diamondhead Lake stays active, that’s the Rural Improvement Zone. (I’m) looking for a way to make the new Guthrie County Jail affordable, keeping taxes low, (and) finding ways of keeping young families living and working in Guthrie County.”
