The unofficial election results have been released for Greene County.

However, Greene County Auditor Jane Heun said there are 40 outstanding absentee ballots that have yet to be received.

For District 3 Tom Contner defeated Democrat Melissa Frederick with 56-percent of the vote. For District 2 Dawn Rudolph beat Democrat challenger Patti Naylor with 68-percent of the vote. Here’s Rudolph describing her reaction after she found out Tuesday night that she was re-elected.

“Well of course I’m very happy. And first of all, I want to thank my family. Because they are my biggest supporters and (they) have to put up with me day in and day out, so I want to thank them for all that they do for me. And for everybody that supported me.”

Republican Phil Thompson also won Greene and Boone counties for the Iowa House District 47 seat. According to the Iowa Secretary of State’s election website, Thompson defeated Democrat David Weaver and Libertarian Patrick Shaw with 51-percent of the vote, to Weaver’s 45-percent and Shaw’s three-percent.

There was 4,132 ballots cast of the 6,644 registered voters in the county for a 62-percent voter turnout. The Greene County Supervisors will canvass the votes at their next regular meeting next Tuesday.
