The finish line is in sight for the bridge replacement projects on Highway 25 in Adair County.

The projects south of Interstate 80 began in late May and the initial completion date was anticipated for November 30th. The portion of Highway 25 from the interstate to Greenfield has been closed as motorists have taken a detour east using I-80, Stuart Road and Iowa Highway 92.

Scott Suhr with the Iowa Department of Transportation District 4 Office says heavy rain delayed workers in pouring concrete and grading the pavement this fall, “Right now both bridge approaches have been poured. The contractors are currently working on the bridge approach sections and the areas of pavement leading up to the bridges. Once that work is complete they will finish the barrier rails that are on the bridges and finish the guardrail work. So we’re probably looking at possibly another 3-4 weeks yet, weather permitting of course.”

Suhr says these new bridges will be wider with upgraded guardrails and should improve traffic flow in the area.
