Perry Veterans Day Celebration 2017

On Monday, the Perry School District will be hosting their annual Veterans Day Celebration.

This is the 21st year of the event, which includes the Social Studies Department’s Veterans Day Panel Presentation, which has been going for the last 30 years. The day will start at 8 a.m. with morning refreshments for veterans in the high school’s Brady Library. The panel will be held at 9 a.m. in the Perry Performing Arts Center. It will be moderated by Gary Overla and John Fulton, and will feature several local veterans. The public celebration will follow at 10 a.m. in the PAC, and will be emceed by Mike Powell. The program will include music performances and special presentations, as well as a keynote address from U.S. Congressman David Young. It will conclude with the playing of “Taps” and the retiring of the colors.

After the celebration, the attendees are invited to the annual Veterans Day Luncheon held in the high school gymnasium. In addition to all the events at the school, the Perry Hy-Vee will also be hosting a complimentary veterans breakfast from 6-10 a.m. It’s free for all veterans and active service military personnel. The Perry Veterans Day Celebration was started 21 years ago as a cooperative effort between the Bluejay Congress, the Perry High School Social Studies, Music, and Student Activities departments, the Perry Historic Preservation Commission, and the local chapters of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
