As we finalize our plans for meals to celebrate Thanksgiving tomorrow and through the weekend, there tends to be more calorie-filled types of food.

While the heavier foods can be okay to eat in moderation says Greene County Extension Nutrition Specialist Ann Parker, she reminds everyone to not forget about balancing out your meals with vegetables and fruits. She points out that if meals include more vegetables and fruit, then those other foods can be offset come meal time for people.

Parker adds for those going to family get togethers or parties over the holiday to bring a healthier type of food choice. “Individual snack packs of maybe some healthy trail mix, or granola, or popcorn in some type of attractive Christmas packaging. Fresh, homemade bread or even soup mixes that you can give as gifts would all make really good choices.”

Parker urges everyone to include healthy food choices and eat in moderation this Thanksgiving holiday.
