Today is a rare Tuesday off for the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers basketball program as they prepare to return to competition Friday night on the road. The Tigers will end the week at Mel Penrod Gymnasium in a league doubleheader versus the Winterset Huskies. Friday marks the third time this calendar year that ADM girls basketball team will visit Madison County with the last two contests being decided on the last possession of regulation. During last year’s regular-season meeting on January 23, ADM overcame an 11 point second-half deficit for a 50-48 victory over the Huskies. Senior Anna Kenny jumped the passing lane with less than 10 seconds remaining and put the game-winning layup off the glass as time expired. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network asked Kenny about that game-winning play during the preseason, and she said initially she underestimated the impact of her heroic effort. “I was not having my best game (against Winterset), kind of in the dumps,” Kenny said, “So the moment didn’t mean a whole lot to me until afterwards when everyone was talking about it.”

Kenny’s game winning layup was the only points she scored against the Huskies in their regular season road meeting. The Tigers and Huskies were paired up in Class 4A regional tournament 22 days later also in Winterset. Trailing 43-41 with five seconds remaining, Winterset senior Madison Wauters left her free throw jumper short as ADM escaped with an opening round victory. ADM and Winterset meet for the first of two Raccoon River Conference games this Friday with the varsity girls game tipping off at 6 p.m. and the boys to follow.
