West Central Valley Wildcat

The West Central Valley School Board convened in regular session Wednesday.

The meeting began with approval of a School Budget Review Committee Modified Allowable Growth request. Next, the Board approved a request from teacher Jessica Taylor for a Granny Basketball Fundraiser for the students going on a European trip next summer. Taylor hopes to have the event next April, in which students, staff and parents would volunteer to play the granny team using 1920’s rules. The Board also approved the list of semester graduates and special education contracts, and Superintendent Lance Ridgely gave an update on the strategic planning process. One meeting has been held so far to mine the data collected from a district survey conducted this fall, and the District plans to create a more specific survey for the District in the future.

Finally, Board Members on the elementary restructuring committee shared how the four meetings held went, and Board Member Jen Clemetson brought forward an email that was sent to her by several Dexter and Stuart Elementary teachers detailing concerns with the proposal of changing to grade-alike elementaries with preschool-second grade in Stuart and third-fifth grade in Dexter. Stuart first grade teacher Lori Cook said several Stuart teachers met Wednesday and plan to write a letter of their concerns to the Board and administration. The District is planning on holding several public meetings regarding elementary restructuring, beginning on January 7th at Stuart Elementary. Finally, the Board adjourned for a closed session regarding operational sharing.
