A jury trial is tentatively scheduled for a Panora man who mistakenly had his prostate removed.

Court records show that 67-year-old Rickie Lee Huitt filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against the Iowa Clinic in December of 2017. Multiple reports show that a pathologist at the Iowa Clinic admitted to misdiagnosing Huitt leading him to believe he had only five years to live without a surgical procedure. Huitt and another patient both had prostate biopsies and a scanner reading error caused a mix up of the results. After Huitt’s prostate was removed further testing showed there was no cancer, and reports are that he has had continuing complications from the surgery. The other patient involved has not been identified. A trial is scheduled for April 9th in Polk County. Both Huitt’s attorney and the Iowa Clinic have not returned a request for comment.
