Greene County’s high school basketball teams play tomorrow night in Gilbert in a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference girl/boy doubleheader. You can hear the games on KG98 and streaming will be on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Coverage begins at 5:45 p.m. with the girls playing at 6 p.m. and the boys to follow.

Both Greene County teams lost by 34 points at home in Jefferson in early December when the teams met for the first time this season. Chris Nelson is the head coach of the Greene County boys and he talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about the Tigers. “Gilbert is a very good all-around team and they have a lot of depth. They look to push the tempo and up the pace. From a defensive standpoint, they use a couple of different presses, and offensively, they really look to get out and run.” The Tigers did a lot of running last month in Jefferson, especially after the Rams led 17-16 after one quarter of play. Gilbert won the game by a 95-61 final.

The Tigers are 9-2 overall, 7-0 in the conference and are ranked as high as third in the Class 3A top 10. The Rams are 5-6 overall, 3-4 in the conference, and not ranked in Class 2A.
