Greene County Supervisors

The Greene County Board of Supervisors met on Thursday for the second time this week.

The Board approved the hiring of Don Van Gilder as a part-time employee in the County Engineer’s office with a $30 hourly rate on an as-needed basis. Additionally, the Board approved a resolution of support for the national Stepping Up Initiative with Central Iowa Community Services. The Board heard an update from Jefferson Congregate Meals and a 2020 fiscal year funding request of $15,000. The Board took no action on the request. The Supervisors then reviewed the general assistance forms and policies with Ellen Ritter, with no action taken on any of the proposed changes.

Finally, the Board reviewed tax increment financing (TIF) options with the wind turbines. Jeff Heil with Northland Securities led the discussion. He talked about options of paying off debt using consolidated tax rate models of $20 and $25 per $1,000 of valuation. Heil suggested using up to 50-percent of the TIF funds for projects and the rest would go back to the county taxing entities for tax relief. There was no action taken by the Board following the discussion.
