A Monday night fire destroyed a Grand Junction home.

Greene County Chief Deputy Nathaniel Chapman tells Raccoon Valley Radio the Grand Junction and Jefferson Fire departments and a deputy responded to the residential fire at 6:21pm at 701 East Railroad Street. Chapman notes that the homeowner, Joseph Dolan, wasn’t at home during the incident, but a passerby noticed smoke coming from the attic of the home and reported it.

Grand Junction Fire Chief Adam Hoffman says when they arrived on scene, there were flames coming from the attic. He adds that due to the cold temperatures, they called the Jefferson Fire Department for mutual aid. No one was hurt, and the home is a total loss. Hoffman says Dolan was contacted as was Red Cross to assist the homeowner. Hoffman says they believe the fire to be accidental. Crews were on scene for about three hours.
