When Greene County broke its six-game boys’ basketball losing streak on Monday night in Panora vs. Panorama, a bit of an oddity took place. Senior Trey Hinote scored 23 of his career-high 35 points in the first half. Junior Carter Morton scored 20 of his 26 points in the second half. A check of the scorebooks for the 6-12 Rams shows that’s the first time this season that has happened. Two Greene County players scoring 20 points in a half, and opposite halves at that.

Greene County head coach Chris Nelson said it’s not common. “After the first half, they may have focused a little more on Trey. Carter may have been a little more aggressive in the second half. I was happy with how aggressive both were. Also, credit their teammates for getting them the ball in positions where they were either open, or had the opportunity to drive to the basket.”

The Rams won 83-69 for just the second win this month and the second in the past 11 games. The Panthers had their three-game winning streak broken as they fell to 8-9 on the season.

The Greene County girls and boys host Saydel (Des Moines) on Friday, Feb. 1 in a Heart of Iowa girl/boy basketball doubleheader from the middle school gym in Jefferson. Both games will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Coverage begins at 5:45 p.m. with the girls at 6 o’clock and the boys to follow.
