The top ranked girls’ basketball team in Class 3A rolled to a 79-23 victory over Greene County on Tuesday night. The North Polk Comets improved to 18-2 on the season and clinched at least a tie for the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference title in Alleman, dropping the Rams to 1-20 overall and 1-13 in the league. The Comets led 22-5 after one quarter and 47-7 at intermission. The entire second half was played with the 35-point rule continuous clock. Sophomore Maggie Phipps played less than three quarters and still put up 28 points. Junior Jaedon Murphy added 17 points. The Comets sank 12 three-point baskets.

The Rams had seven players score points, one of their highest totals of the season. Sophomore Sadie Wilson led the way with six points on the only two three-pointers of the game for Greene County.

Coach Tyler Westhoff’s Rams are done with the regular season. They’ll open Class 3A regional tournament play on Saturday, Feb. 9 at Carroll High vs. the Tigers at 7 p.m. on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
