The Class 2A District wrestling tournament in Harlan is finished. Greene County and Winterset from the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area both have State qualifiers. The top two wrestlers in each of the 14 weight classes in Harlan qualify for the State Tournament Feb. 14-15-16 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
The Huskies had eight district qualifiers and they qualified three for the State Tournament. Bryce Hatten at 126 lbs. and Jack West at 145 both placed first, while Kruise Kiburz (132) was second.
The Rams took five to Harlan and they’ll send two seniors to Wells Fargo Arena. Bryce Hoyle finished second and is a State Qualifier at 195 lbs. and Brock Wuebker also was second, although he had a more difficult route to Des Moines. The Rams 170 pounder lost his first match, then won his next two, both by fall. The second one was a second place wrestle back match he trailed 3-0 in the third period, but won by fall in 4:17.
Winters finished fifth in the team race and Greene County was eighth. Sergeant Bluff-Luton was first, followed by Atlantic, Harlan, and Red Oak.
