The Perry varsity basketball teams played a pair of competitive games Friday night, but it wasn’t enough in the end, as both fell to Bondurant-Farrar on the road. In the battle of the Bluejays, the Perry girls lost 58-23, while the boys were defeated 62-34.

The girls game stayed relatively close in the first quarter, with Perry trailing by only 13-7 after one. However, a clever half-court trapping defense forced a multitude of turnovers by Perry in the second, and Bondurant entered halftime up 34-13. It was more of the same in the second half, with Perry only managing two points in the third quarter, and they entered the fourth down 46-15. When the final buzzer sounded, Bondurant had earned a 58-23 victory over Perry. The visitors were led by 13 points from junior Molly Lutmer.

The boys game was close for an entire half, with Perry keeping pace with the host team trailing 16-13 after one and 28-24 at halftime. However, the wheels came off in the second half, as Bondurant’s defense held Perry to just six points in the third quarter en route to a 42-30 lead heading into the fourth. The hosts then squashed any hope Perry had of a comeback, finishing with a 62-34 win. Perry had two scorers in double figures for the game, with juniors Brendan Ivory and Keghan West netting 14 and 12 points, respectively.

The losses drop the Jayettes to 1-19, and the Bluejays to 0-18. The boys team will take the court next on Monday as they host North Polk, while the girls will travel to Boone on Wednesday.
