Two West Central Activities Conference girls basketball teams square off in Madison County tonight for the right to advance in the Class 2A Region 7 tournament. The West Central Valley Wildcats pay a visit to the Earlham Cardinals in one of four first-round games inside the regional bracket. The Wildcats and Cardinals only conference matchup this winter came on February 1 in Earlham. Earlham secured 16 offensive rebounds in a 51-47 victory over West Central Valley. Senior Joelle Grubbs scored a team-best 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Wildcats in the loss. Both West Central Valley and Earlham enter the playoffs with positive momentum. The Wildcats snapped a five-game overall losing streak Thursday evening in Guthrie Center, topping the AC/GC Chargers, 49-34. The Cardinals edged the Interstate 35 Roadrunners, 54-49, at home Tuesday night. Tonight’s winner advances to the regional quarterfinal round Tuesday night against the Van Meter Bulldogs in southern Dallas County. Tonight’s Class 2A Region 7 playoff opener between West Central Valley and Earlham starts at 7 p.m. from Earlham High School.
