A Blizzard Warning remains in effect for the Raccoon Valley Radio-listening area until 6 p.m. with strong wind gusts causing blowing and drifting snow and reduced visibility.

According to the National Weather Service, 8 inches of snow was recorded in Churdan. Greene and Guthrie County Sheriff’s Offices both report around 20 vehicle incidents they’ve responded to so far this weekend. The Jefferson Public Works Department worked until about 10 p.m. Saturday night removing snow and treating the roads for ice. Public Works Director Dave Morlan says the snow ordinance will be in effect for the downtown square from 2-6 a.m. Monday morning to finish removing snow. Greene County Secondary Roads crews have their plow trucks and maintainers out this morning. Guthrie County Engineer Josh Sebern says they have everyone as much as possible out trying to clear roads this morning, though blowing white-out conditions are making operations very difficult. The snow ordinance is in effect in Perry, and 22 power outages have been reported by Alliant Energy with over 500 customers out.

With this blizzard warning strong winds could bring down tree branches and cause power outages, and weak flat roof structures may be damaged by new and packed snowfall. Motorists are urged not to travel and a tow ban is in place for Dallas and Greene counties. Listen to Raccoon Valley Radio for weather and road condition updates as well as cancellation information.
