A driver suffered a medical emergency after his vehicle was destroyed in a fire Tuesday in Greene County.

Sheriff Jack Williams says he and a deputy, along with the Jefferson Police and Fire departments responded to the call at Henderson Park just before 4pm. Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio when they arrived on scene the vehicle was fully engulfed. The driver had suffered a medical issue after the car caught fire, but was able to get out of the vehicle and make it halfway up the hill before crews got to him.

Williams points out that Jefferson City crews had to plow a path through the snow drifted roadway to get to the burning vehicle so fire crews could put out the flames. He adds that the vehicle was a total loss and due to the amount of damage, the vehicle can’t be identified at this time. Williams believes the driver slid the vehicle off the roadway due to the ice and snow-covered roads, and ended up going down the hill toward the park. He thinks the fire started from a severe oil leak from the vehicle hitting frozen ice. Then from the driver trying to get out, the hot oil caught fire.

A deputy took the driver to the Greene County Medical Center. The driver didn’t suffer any burns from the fire. Due to the driver experiencing a medical issue, Williams says the driver’s name isn’t being released.
