The indoor track and field season started for Greene County last week inside the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls at the A.D. Dickinson Relays. It continues this Saturday in Storm Lake inside the Siebens Center as Buena Vista University hosts a high school meet.

Greene County girls’ head coach Derek Merk has seen leaders emerge early this season and he talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about three senior leaders. “We’re fortunate to have a handful of girls step up. You’ve got Kara Reed to lead the throwers. For sprinters, there’s Melanie Doran and she has a lot of big meet and State Meet experience. Then, there’s 2017 State long jump qualifier Janelle Brophy. They’re kind of setting the tone for what kind of work ethic we expect from the younger girls. They get in, do their job, and I think we’re already seeing some good results early in the year.”
