A flood warning is in effect for Dallas and Guthrie counties.

Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf says residents along the Middle and South Raccoon Rivers should expect minor to moderate flooding over the next 24 hours. Kempf adds an ice jam located south of Redfield is backing river flow up both rivers. According to the National Weather Service Des Moines Office, at 10:05 a.m. Wednesday emergency management and automated river gauges reported rapid 8-10 foot rises on the Middle Raccoon and South Raccoon Rivers due to ice jams. This will likely impact several county roads near the river with road closures expected. Moderate to heavy rainfall today with continued snowmelt will lead to additional flooding impacts along small creeks and streams and low lying or poor drainage areas.

Kempf advises residents to monitor the situation closely if they are in a potential flooding area, and evacuate if need be. Motorists are also advised to not drive through flooded roadways. The flood warning is in effect until 10:15 a.m. Thursday. A flood watch is also in effect for Dallas, Greene, and Guthrie counties until 7 p.m. Thursday.
