The Perry and Adel-DeSoto-Minburn speech teams each travelled to Nevada High School this past Saturday to compete in the State Individual Speech Contest, and each team had a great deal of success.

Perry had 12 students perform, with five of them competing in more than one category. Six of the students received “I” ratings from each of their three judges, including: Rylynn Gilmore in literary program and poetry; Dannah Karolus in acting; Ainsley Marburger in solo musical theater; Madison Mason in original oratory; Zoe Meyer in literary program; and Allie Taggart in poetry. Additionally, five Perry students received two “I” ratings and one “II,” which is still considered an overall “I” rating, including: Adrianna Eastman in prose; Brianna Fields in literary program; Marburger in solo improv; Jamileth Sarceno in storytelling; and Camden Studer in radio news.

Meanwhile, ADM sent eight students to state, each performing one entry, and two received straight “I” ratings: Kimberly Hall in prose, and Sean Whitson in acting. Also, two entries had overall “I” ratings, including Averi Brady in solo musical theater and Abby Wedemeyer in solo improv. Normally by now, performers would know if they’ve qualified for the All-State Festival, however the state contests in the two northern regions of the state were postponed to yesterday due to weather. As such, the All-State nominations will be announced this Saturday.

In order to be selected to All-State, performers must receive an overall “I” rating, and they must earn the judge’s recommendation. Gilmore from Perry was selected to All-State last year in poetry. The All-State Festival will be held on Monday, March 25th at the University of Northern Iowa. See below for the full results from State Individual Speech Contest for Perry and ADM.
