Flooding continues to be an issue around Dallas County, and one of the most frequently flooded spots has once again been closed due to water over the road.

The Iowa Department of Transportation has closed Highway 169 over the Raccoon River north of Adel. Motorists should use the normal detour routes — Grove Street to 15th, then County Road P-58 to Highway 44, or Highway 6 to R Avenue to Highway 44 — until further notice. The flood warning issued by the National Weather Service will also continue through likely Sunday morning. There are several other roads around Dallas County that have water near or over the road today, including 130th Street east of Perry between Houston Avenue and Grandview Road, County Road P-46 north of Dawson from 125th to 120th, and Quinlan Ave N of F31 to 180th St.

Other current road closures include: the 20000 block of Panther Creek Road; the Raccoon River Bridge on County Road F-90; 62000 Utica Trail; 250th Street east of Alice’s Road; H Avenue in both directions south of the bridge near Old Highway 6; Midland Trail north of Highway 44 to 230th Street; U Avenue north of CR F-31 from 180th to 141st Street; Old Highway 6 and Delta Court for around one mile; 328th Place and Dexfield Road; R Avenue for one mile south of 180th Street; 180th Street between Pioneer and Quinlan Avenue; 340th Trail for one mile East of CR R-16; Xavier Avenue between 200th and 220th Street; and O Ave between 250th and 260th Street.

County officials remind motorists to never drive through a water-covered road, but instead you should find an alternate route. As the saying goes, “turn around, don’t drown.” Raccoon Valley Radio will continue to update the road conditions throughout the current flood warning.
