A candidate for President of United States paid a visit to Dallas County Saturday night, as U.S. Senator Cory Booker, (D) New Jersey, visited the home of State Representative Kenan Judge in Waukee for a town hall meet and greet.

The basement of the Democratic Representative from Iowa’s 44th District was filled to capacity with people eager to hear from the high-profile senator. Booker opened up the evening with sharing a bit about his background. He also spoke of his desire to unify the country, saying, “This is a test of our nation. We make a mistake if we make this election about one person and one office. We make it about what we’re against, and not what we are for. I’m running for President to revive that sense of common cause. To revive those values of civic grace, of a more courageous empathy. Of a nation that understands the definition of patriotism is love of country, and you can’t love your country unless you love your fellow country men and women.”

Booker then fielded an assortment of questions from attendees, ranging from women’s health care, to preschool education, and to how America can better care for veterans. He even got a question from a 9-year-old girl who wanted to know how he would stand up for women’s rights. Following the question and answer portion, he went around and met with everyone in attendance, taking pictures with any who requested. Booker is the second officially declared Democratic candidate for President to visit Dallas County ahead of the 2020 Iowa Caucuses, following former U.S. Congressman John Delaney who visited Perry in February.
