Yesterday the Iowa State University Classic high school track & field meet for girls was held. Today, it’s the boys’ turn. Greene County head coach Chad Morton will be taking a partial squad to the meet in Ames inside the Lied Recreation Center for the large one-class meet. There is no team scoring and schools of all sizes from throughout the state are expected to have entries.

Greene County is led by its two returning State Meet qualifiers in juniors Carter Morton and Colby Kafer. Morton is one of just two Iowans to have cleared the high jump bar this season at 6′ 7″. He did so on Saturday at the Buena Vista University Elite high school meet inside the Siebens Center in Storm Lake, and he automatically qualifies for the April 25 high jump for high school boys at the Drake Relays in Des Moines. Kafer won the long jump title at Storm Lake with a leap of 20′ 4-1/2″.

Morton, Kafer, and their teammates, will be in a number of field events and running events. Start time in Ames is 3 p.m.
