ACGC senior Madison McDermott got the 2019 field season off to a good start yesterday for the varsity girls track and field team. McDermott grabbed an 8th place finish in the shot put at the Iowa State High School Girls Indoor Classic.
McDermott secured a launch of 35 feet flat for the Chargers. Sophomore Mady Kelsey finished in 33rd with a throw of 31 feet, three inches. Junior Kate Crawford got the long distance season off to a good start as well with a 15th place finish in the 3,000. Crawford crossed the line with a time of 11:20.25. Senior Lauryn Embleton also ran the 3,000, finishing in 27th with a time of 12:12.23.
Two other individual top-50 finishes for the gold and black came from senior Savana Fuller and sophomore Rylee Sloss. Fuller finished in 21st in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.56. Sloss placed 40th in the 1500 meter run, crossing the line at 5:48.78. The 4×800 and 4×400 meter relay teams also finished inside the top 50, placing 35th and 47th respectively.
The boys will take their shot at some indoor accolades this afternoon. ACGC’s entry list can be found below:
