With Spring weather hopefully here to stay, not only will Perry athletes be seen running around town, but also adults will begin their regular outdoor routines.  Some runs a little bit harder than others. That will certainly be the case for Perry elementary school co-principal Ryan Marzen. The head cross country coach will be moving his training outdoors as he trains for an upcoming Iron Man competition in Kona, Hawaii.  The competition will consists of a 112 mile bike ride, 2.5 mile swim and full marathon run of 26.2 miles. The popular teacher is very humble about his accomplishments and says he doesn’t discuss it with the students that often.

“I like to keep my personal competition on the quiet side,” stated Marzen.  “Sure the kids will occasionally ask me about my training and what it’s like or what my 3 am workouts are built around but I never bring it up to any of them.  I put my focus on improving their running, their training and their times.”

Marzen will compete in what he says will be his final Iron Man in October on the beautiful island of Hawaii.  Marzen qualified for the distinguished event with his performances in 2018.
