A measure put into the state’s proposed sports gambling bill would place a limit on the kind of bets that can be made.

An amendment was passed last week to ban in-game proposition bets on college players on Iowa teams and those competing against them. House District 20 Representative Ray Sorensen (R) who supports legalizing sports betting, comments on in-game betting, “The way I see it is the Iowa Racing and Gaming (Commission) has kind of overseen this type of stuff for many years. I was putting my trust in them to police it and police it properly. They have algorithms in place that pick up on nefarious betting, things like that that could happen like you know if all of a sudden a kid that was making all his free throws missed them and there were (a) crazy amount of bets on that. That would be a huge red flag and would be immediately investigated.”

Sorensen says this bill which aims to bring sports betting “out of the shadows” now awaits a House floor vote. You can hear more from Sorensen in today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County Program on air and at raccoonvalleyradio.com.
