The luck of the Irish was in Guthrie Center Saturday night at an annual fundraiser for Guthrie County Relay for Life.

The Relay for Life committee’s third annual “St. Paddy’s Day-Kiss the Blarney Stone” bowling tournament was presumably their most successful yet, with Incredibowl packed with competitors throughout the day. A new element this year was a “Pot of Gold” toilet seat that people paid to wear and pass around for even more donations to the American Cancer Society.

Committee member Vicki Crannell comments on this event being the kickoff for the 2019 Relay for Life, “Doing really, really good. I mean I love seeing this many people having fun and wanting to come out and participate it’s cool, I love it.”

Committee member Melva Newbrough has been volunteering for Guthrie County Relay for Life for nearly 20 years. She comments on the community’s support Saturday night, “This is fantastic. I mean, who has not in the world been touched by cancer? Who can say that they’ve never been touched by cancer? So this is our way of really being able to go for a cause that you truly believe in and love.”

Kim Durst with the American Cancer Society with 109 bowlers the tournament raised $2,200, an increase from last year. The committee thanks those who came out in green to bowl and support the fight against cancer, as well as Incredibowl owners Chris and Melissa Long who help host the event.
