A Carroll man faces charges following an incident involving drugs, weapons, and alleged burglary last week in Jefferson.

According to court documents, Greene County Dispatch received a call from a man at 2:49am Friday, March 29th claiming someone was after him and that he needed an ambulance at his home in Carroll. The caller also claimed he was trying to contact Waterloo Police and he told Dispatch that he broke into Wells Fargo Bank and needed officers to come get him.

When officers responded, they couldn’t find the male subject and there was no disturbance at the bank. A Greene County Deputy later found the caller, who stayed on the phone with Dispatch, at the southwest corner of the Greene County Courthouse. The deputy ordered the man to the ground at gunpoint. As the man was going to the ground, he told law enforcement that he had a firearm under his armpit. The firearm was removed before handcuffs were placed on him, however he wasn’t under arrest at that time.

During the investigation, the man told the officer he was smoking marijuana with some friends, which he believed was laced with something. He thought his cellphone was hacked, so he broke into TechZone to use a landline phone. When the officer obtained video surveillance, the male suspect was seen breaking into the back door of the business and using a landline phone, while waving his firearm in the air. The estimated damage to the door was $300.

Twenty-seven-year-old Roderick Alan Klampe II was then arrested and charged with a Class C Felony for second degree burglary, an aggravated misdemeanor for carrying weapons, and serious misdemeanors for fourth degree criminal mischief and possession of a weapon while intoxicated. He was booked into the Greene County Jail and was released after posting bond.
