Earlier this week the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association put Greene County in the number 14 spot in the Class 1A boys’ rankings. On Thursday, the Rams improved to 4-0 on the season with a 10-0 victory over Ballard (1-3) in Huxley. The victory was the second straight by the 10-goal rule, ending the match early.

Coach Carl Behne’s team led 6-0 at halftime. The Rams scored four goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half to end the match 30 minutes early. “The weather conditions were very tough tonight Twenty to 30 MPH sustained winds on a very open field made the temps even colder as well. It wasn’t our best match of the year, but given the conditions, the boys played well and I am very proud of them,” said the coach.

Junior Gutierrez scored 3 more goals and had two assists. His 15 goals and 37 points both lead the entire state. Luis Velazco is also among Iowa’s top goal scorers with 10 after reaching the net twice on Thursday. Maynor Carballo had three goals with one each from Yunior Carballo and Alex Roberts. Junior had two assists with one assist from Austin Delp.

Goalkeeper Cael Fisher had three saves and recorded his second straight shut out.
