The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and the Iowa High School Activities Association released the state qualifying sites for all classes Friday morning. Unsurprisingly, ACGC was placed in the Class 2A District 5 qualifier in Panora on Thursday, May 9th. The qualifier includes athletes from host Panorama and ACGC, as well as: Clarinda, Greene County, Interstate 35, Mount Ayr, Ogden, Red Oak, Shenandoah, Southeast Valley, Van Meter, and West Central Valley.

Junior Kate Crawford has the best time in both the 1500 and 3000 meter runs for all teams in the sectional. Crawford’s best time in the 3000 this season of 10:41.97 is nearly 30 seconds ahead of the second fastest time, held by Ella Waddle of Panorama. The gap between Crawford and Waddle in the 1500 is much closer, with less than five seconds separating the pair. In the shot put, senior Madison McDermott is second in the district only to Shenandoah senior Logan Hughes.

On the boys side, the Chargers have the top mark in three of the nineteen events. Senior Clay Billheimer has the top time in the 800 meter run with a mark of 2:01.06, while classmate Noah Nelsen has the top time in the 1600 and 3200 with marks of 4:43.19 and 9:58.92 respectively. The Charger boys have the third fastest time in the distance medley, trailing only Mount Ayr and Red Oak.

The top two in each event at the qualifier, plus the next eight best marks statewide in each event, will advance to the state meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines May 16-18.
