The Adel City Council convened Monday evening in regular session.

The meeting began with approval of the consent agenda, which now contains items that had previously been normal agenda items, but where considered routine and non-controversial. Items included were: a resolution to support the redesignation of the Raccoon River Valley Trail as an Iowa Great Place; adopting a procurement policy for federal grant funded projects; and closure of parking lots for the library’s summer reading kick-off and the annual Bike Rodeo. In new business, the Council approved the second reading of an amendment to the zoning ordinance associated with the Southbridge Planned Urban Development. Since there were no objections, they also waived the third reading and the ordinance was officially adopted.

Next, the Council approved a construction contract with Crow River Construction of New London, Minnesota and bond of $356,826 for the stormwater utility improvement project on North 15th Street. The action was deferred from a previous meeting due to comments made by the U.S. Department of Agriculture – Rural Development Agency, but the minor issues in the document had since been rectified. Finally, the Council approved a resolution stating their opposition to the proposed legislative changes related to property tax reform. The meeting concluded with a closed session to discuss pending litigation.
