Greene County’s high school soccer teams played different opponents in separate locations on Monday night, but both won their matches.

Coach Marilyn Tasler reports a 2-1 Greene County victory in Logan last night vs. non-conference opponent Logan-Magnolia. Junior Julia Saul had both goals and both were in the first half. The coach said the only L-M goal came in the second half from a deflected pass off a Ram player. The victory improves the girls to 2-3 with a home match in Grand Junction later today vs. Class 1A sixth ranked Nevada.

The Greene County boys, ranked ninth in 1A, improved to 6-0 on the season with a victory at home in Grand Junction over Valley United, the combined West Central Valley and Nodaway Valley program. The 11-1 final marked a season high in goals for the Rams. The match ended with 23:21 remaining in the second half via the 10-goal rule. Junior Gutierrez and Luis Velazco each scored four goals with one each from Isaiah Losee, Austin Delp, and Maynor Caraballo. Head Coach Carl Behne reports the Rams had 18 shots and 15 shots on goal. Goalkeeper Cael Fisher had three saves. “It was a great effort across the board. We all make each other better and the work put in by all is showing.”

Gutierrez has 20 goals this season and Velazco 16, and both are among Iowa’s top goal and point scorers.
